<Final Essay>
Before I decided my final essay subject, it
was good chance to see other classmates’ blogs. I saw 10 news in one person and
there were 47 students except my group, so I read more than 470 articles at
least it was just a title. Finally, I choose subject about ‘homosexuality’. It
was discussed many times in class, and I feel some students have different ideas
with me, so I decided to write about this with my experiences. The experience
doesn’t mean I’m a gay but I knew some gays. I have talked with them and I also
have some chances to drink with them. From now on, I will start my opinion of
three blog posts related to homosexuality. My opinion can be read by anyone,
but I hope you read this without prejudice.
The first article is from Boo Jung Soo’s blog
project 1, “Gay couple Gordon Stevenson and Peter Fraser
marry in Australia under British law” and I chose this article
because this can be a good example of government’s policy. According to this
article, the couple, who have been together for 19 years, became the first
to be married in Australia under British same-sex marriage laws. Boo
Jung Soo mentioned that he think same sex marriage should be allowed because they
love each other, so they have right to be happy under the law. I entirely agree
with him. First, the feeling of love cannot be ignored and they deserve to be
happy with their lovers. And what I have heard from them was they marry woman
while they have same-sex lovers. It is more sad things to their wife and wife’s
family. They don’t have to deceive others. With these reasons, I chose this
article and I wish I can hear this kind of news in Korea soon.
Second article is “Anti-gay religious group
faces legal action over billboard” from Lee Hong Woo’s blog and I chose this
article because this is fundamental prejudice of homosexuality. This article
said Evangelical group
is facing legal action because of using a billboard to express anti-gay
sentiments. The word on the billboard was “You shall not lie with a man,
as with a woman. That is detestable.” Lee Hong Woo’s idea about this
article was people should have open mind respect the equality and rights. I like
his opinions that he mentioned equality and rights. I think religion like
catholic is the biggest problem of accepting homosexuality these days. But
things are different now, understanding difference is becoming more and more
important, so religious groups need changing. In this paragraph, I want to show
you a cause of anti-gay problem with religious group, and I insist they need
some attitude of acceptance.
Last
article is “How
Cuba’s Gay Rights Activists Are Starting a Revolution With Kissing” from Kim Kyung Jae’s blog and I chose
this article because we can see how gays demanding their rights. In this
article, it shows a video of Cuba’s gay who is demanding equal rights with kissing
activities. Kim Kyung Jae wrote about this article that he totally agreed on gay rights since they do not harm
other people. As you see in the former paragraph, I’m on his side. But I don’t
understand why he kissed so deeply. When I talked with my gay friends, what they
want is just go out like other couples not kissing in the street. I think that
kind of excessive expression can make people more uncomfortable and cause opposite
effects because heterosexual people normally doesn’t kiss like that in the
street. In conclusion, I also agree about rights of gays and their demanding
protests or activities, but it is better for them to express more ordinarily.
This is my opinion of gays and
homosexuality. I found 6 articles in others blogs and I want to choose different
subject of homosexuality, so I pick policy, cause, activities. As I know, It is
really hard to live as a gay in Korea. They cannot talk about that with family
or friends, and more hard thing is they should go to military service. But the
most important thing is they have rights to love and they never going to fall
in love with us. I hope my essay can change thoughts of someone who hates gays or
homosexuality. Thank you.
